Online Gambling Guide Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is the fourth state in the United States to legalize online gambling following New Jersey, Delaware, and Nevada (the only form of online gambling in Nevada is online poker). Most casinos in Pennsylvania have yet to launch any online platforms but fear not gamblers of PA, as July 15th has been listed as the big day. It is not clear exactly how many Pennsylvania online casinos will go live in 2019 but quite a few have already been approved and obtained licenses for online slots, online table games, and online poker. Like in New Jersey, a player does not have to be a PA resident to wager online but must be 21 years of age and located inside Pennsylvania borders. Pennsylvania has also legalized online sports betting and casinos like Play SugarHouse have already launched online sportsbooks.
Best Online Casino Pennsylvania
Before players sign up for an online casino in Pennsylvania, there are a few things that should be factored into making the decision on who to play with since there will be so many options available on the market. Casino players should consider the software, games, bonuses and live dealer options the online casino is offering. Players should test out games with free no-deposit money bonuses offered by online casinos so they can see what games and software they like best without risking their own money. Poker fans should look at the same factors, as each site will have a different format and offerings to players. The best PA poker site should have a combination of a lot of players, a wide selection of games and regular rewards and bonuses.
The following is a list of the nine out of thirteen Pennsylvania casinos that have applied and been approved for an online gambling license and what players can expect on July 15th when online gambling launches in PA.
Owned and run by Rush Street Gaming, SugarHouse casino was one of the first in Pennsylvania to apply and pay $10 million for an online casino license. Since Rush Street Gaming already has an online casino in New Jersey, it can be predicted that SugarHouse online casino Pennsylvania will operate the same way. Signing up online only takes a few minutes and requires just some basic personal information, which is normal for any online casino site in the States. PlaySugarHouse.com in NJ offers a welcome bonus to new players with the promo code 250MATCH, matching 100% on deposits up to $250. A similar welcome bonus is expected for SugarHouse PA online casino, however, as taxes are different between the states it could change how much is offered. As there are still issues with banks and gambling transactions it is likely players will not be able to use a credit card without having it decline, but PlaySugarHouse NJ offers the largest variety of deposit options including wire transfers, PayPal, online bill pay, etc. If PlaySugarHouse Pennsylvania is anything like the casino in NJ, players will also have over 400 games to choose from with table games, slots, and video poker.
It is expected that PlaySugarHouse Pennsylvania will be one of the more convenient online casinos coming to the market, with promising bonuses for players too.
Like SugarHouse, Harrah's Philadelphia also has an online casino already operating in New Jersey. Harrahs is owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment and was the first to get approval for an Interactive Gaming Certificate in Pennsylvania. It is not clear what direction Caesars will take with the launch of Harrahs online casino in PA but regardless it is expected to have a huge selection of online table games like online Blackjack and online Roulette, plus online slots. The plan for Harrah’s Philadelphia online casino is to also include online poker as the land-based casino currently hosts a World Series of Poker branded poker room. Caesars already has the largest regulated and legal online poker network in the United States and is predicted to double in size if it adds Harrah’s Philadelphia online to the mix. Registering with HarrahsCasino.com in NJ is simple so it should be no different for the PA online casino, just taking a few minutes to fill out basic personal information. Players will be able to deposit through PayPal, NETELLER and ACH bank transfers, and while NJ is claiming that they allow credit and debit cards, the industry of gambling has listed a number of problems with transactions declining.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course was the first to launch a sports betting operation legally in the state. The casino was approved for an Interactive Gaming Certificate by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in September of 2018 and within a month signed big deals with NetEnt and IGT, both big gaming suppliers, to help with launching its PA online casino. Players who join online casinos in New Jersey are often granted a welcome bonus in the range of $10 - $30 with no deposit required as well as 100% match bonus applicable anywhere from $100 - $2000 after first deposit. Since the tax is so high on online gambling in Pennsylvania it is likely many online casinos will not be offering more than the basic bonus and promotions once launched in the state. Due to the partnership with IGT, Hollywood online casino PA will operate under that digital gaming platform and will also feature a wide selection of the same games from the IGT PlayCasino library as well as PlayBingo and PlayPoker. The partnership with NetEnt is also bringing a game library of over 200 games that will be available on HollywoodCasino.com.
Parx Casino in Pennsylvania applied for the $10 million online gambling license package four days ahead of the state's deadline and was approved to operate online slots, online table games, and online poker. Parx is expected to have one of the best PA online casino welcome bonuses due to the fact that the casino is one of the highest-grossing in the state. The plan for the Parx casino online launch in PA will be very similar to the current social casino platform operated by GAN. Players can expect a variety of free online slots and casino games to choose from and will be able to earn rewards off and online as it will integrate the land-based casino’s loyalty program with the online gambling site. Players will be able to use the same deposit methods most online casinos in PA offers like PayPal, bank transfers and wire transfers. Since GAN is such a trusted and firm gaming company it can be expected that Parx will be the same.
Presque Isle Downs
Owned by Churchill Downs, Presque Isle Downs casino has been approved for online tables games and online slots licenses but has no plans to apply for an online poker license. In 2018 the casino made a deal with SBTech, a sports betting and iGaming software supplier, to launch an online platform for online gambling and sports betting across America called Chameleon360 and will use the same platform to launch the online casino site in Pennsylvania. The goal is to make registration for new users as effective as possible, taking just a few minutes and filling in basic personal information. New users will also be entitled to a small no deposit PA online casino bonus and first deposit match bonus in order to keep up with the online gambling competition. Methods of the deposit will be the same as other online casinos launching in PA, and Presque Isle Downs online casino will have a platform launching more than 1500 casino, live dealer and virtual games. Seeing as the casino has partnered with Golden Nugget, a New Jersey market leader, Presque Isles Down is expected to launch a very successful online casino in PA.
Rivers Casino is owned and operated by Rush Street Gaming, the same owners of SugarHouse Casino. Rivers was one of the original nine casinos that applied for the $10 million licensing packages but later took back the application as Rush decided to let SugarHouse take the lead in the online gambling world of Pennsylvania. For the time being, Rush Street Gaming will operate in PA under one brand that is SugarHouse and leave Rivers as land-based.
Valley Forge Casino
Operating under VFCasino.com once launched into the Pennsylvania online gambling market, Valley Forge has applied and been approved for all three PA online casino licenses and will be the first online gambling operation to have an IGT designed online gaming platform. IGT is known in the New Jersey online casino market as a game provider and will be bringing players hundreds of games to choose from as it offers one of the biggest varieties of roulette games in the PA online casino market as well as hundreds of slots. The IGT platform is also hoping to make a dent in the PA online poker industry by revamping the software, something to intrigue operators in the States. PA online players will have the option of PayPal, bank transfers and NETELLER for deposit methods and, again, registration will be kept short and sweet for new users.
Mount Airy Casino
The Stars Group partnered with Mount Airy announcing its future launch with online poker, online casino, and online sports betting in Pennsylvania. The casino was approved for the online gambling license at $10 million and is expected to go live in 2019. The Stars Group owns PokerStars NJ which is already online so in terms of bonuses and promos, it can be assumed Mount Airy will be similar if not the same. Once a player makes the first deposit at PokerStars NJ site they receive a match deposit bonus, free spins, Progressive Jackpot Slot Bonus and the chance to win up to $1000 in cash. Since the online poker and casino sites are one, players only need one wallet and a single account to play both but the bonuses can only be used on PokerStars Casino games. Besides offering players online poker, Mount Airy online casino PA will also be full of blackjack, roulette, video poker, slots, and other casino games and players will be able to deposit money through PayNearMe, Instant eChecks, NETELLER, Stars Transfer, and PokerStars Play Card. While the game library might not be the biggest in the PA online casino market, Mount Airy will have some of the best software in the business and could make it the leader in online poker in PA.
Mohegan Sun Pocono Casino
Mohegan Sun Pocono is partners with Kindred Group and has been approved for online slots and online table games licenses, dropping plans to launch an online poker site. Since Kindred Group also owns the Unibet brand it is expected that the Mohegan Sun Pocono PA online casino will end up looking similar to the European brand. The standard online casino bonus offered in the United States is $10 - $30 no deposit required and a 100% match bonus of up to $100 - $2000 on first deposit so players should expect similar from Mohegan Sun Pocono PA online casino. The online site will have hundreds of casino games, slots, and live dealer games, with players having the same deposit method options offered by other PA online casinos like PayPal and NETELLER. Mohegan Sun Pocono is one of the smaller casinos in PA but will still have excellent software and game selection.
Legal Online Sports Betting Pennsylvania
Online sports betting in Pennsylvania launched after SugarHouseSportsbook began live testing in May 2019 and became the first sports betting app in the State. Parx followed shortly after starting with a three day testing period that launched at the end of June, as well as BetRivers from Rivers Casino launching a day after Parx. It isn’t known exactly how many casinos in PA will launch online sportsbooks but the following are likely entries.
SugarHouse Sportsbook PA
SugarHouse already has an app in New Jersey and now PA, expected to do well as it’s one of the first in the market.
Bet Rivers Sportsbook PA
Owned by the same company as SugarHouse, Bet Rivers is expected to have a similar app in PA to SugarHouse with different branding.
FanDuel Sportsbook PA
Fanduel is partners with Valley Forge Casino and already has the biggest and best app in New Jersey in terms or product and revenue, so it can be expected to have a strong showing in PA as well.
Caesars Sportsbook PA
Caesar's will bring its sports betting app to PA via Harrah’s Casino and is counting on its location in PA to help with the success of the launch.
Parx Sportsbook PA
Parx is expected to hit the online sportsbook market strong as it brings in the most gaming revenue out of all the casinos in PA.
DraftKings Sportsbook PA
Draftkings hasn't announced any sort of partnership with a land-based casino yet but is still expected to launch an online sportsbook in the near future.
Players must be 21 years of age and located in PA borders to have access to sports betting online and have the option to bet on popular American games like football, basketball, tennis, golf, hockey, etc. Unlike in NJ, Pennsylvania has no restrictions when it comes to wagering on college games but does not allow betting on awards ceremonies. Right now players are limited on how they can deposit and withdraw money as the SugarHouse product only accepts credit cards, prepaid SugarHouse cards, or cash at the cage, but once more apps begin to launch players can expect to see the following deposit/withdraw options:
- Prepaid cards
- Credit cards
- Bank/Wire transfer
Online sports betting apps in Pennsylvania are not available on the Apple store yet, only Android and desktop devices.
All online gaming sites in the State will be monitored by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the same group who regulate all land-based PA casinos. This prevents minors from getting access, enforces geolocation, player verification process, and secure deposits and withdrawals. Compared to offshore sites, the online casinos in PA launching are legal, guarantee fair games, and overall will provide players with a better quality of gaming.
